Electrical Apprentice (2nd - 4th year)

Who We Are:
Oceanvolt Solar & EV is a residential solar power & EV charging solutions provider located in the heart of Victoria, BC. Our mission is to power spaces all over Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands with reliable, safe, and sustainable solutions that leave spaces greener than before. We pride ourselves on our level of craftsmanship that goes into each installation and educating homeowners who wish to decrease their environmental footprint and increase their energy independence.

About the Role:
The Apprentice will play a critical role in company growth as Oceanvolt looks to expand their installation team. They will be performing electrical work as well as installing photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage systems, EV chargers, and service upgrades on homes. This contract will have the opportunity to be extended depending on work volume and whether it is a good employee/employer fit.


Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Assemble and install electrical equipment as per design, safety, and code requirements.

  • Work on all types of pitched or flat residential roof tops, in attics, crawl spaces, garages and on the exterior of homes.

  • Work efficiently and proficiently with the Installation Lead to ensure project deadlines are met.

  • Assure quality control and safety standards are always met.

  • Maintain a work trailer and organize material.

  • Maintain and ensure operational readiness of company-provided tools; prevent damage.

  • Promptly and accurately submit time sheets daily.

 

Who are we looking for?

Experience Requirements:

  • You are registered as an Electrical Apprentice through SkilledTradesBC.

  • You have completed your 1st year coursework and hours (1500 hours).

  • You have a valid class 5 Drivers License.

  • You have experience working with power tools (impact drill, skill saw).

  • You are comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders.

  • You are fluent in English.

  • You have a good understanding of the Canadian Electric Code.


*Please note: Only registered Electrical Apprentices will be considered for this position*

 

Willingness Requirements:

  • Willing and flexible to work varying hours and locations Monday to Friday.

  • Willing to work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Willing and able to lift 50 lbs or more, multiple times per day.

  • Willing to travel to locations all over Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

 

Additional certifications/experience that is not required but would be considered a plus:

  • First Aid.

  • Fall Arrest (if not already obtained, training will be provided upon employment).

  • Experience in the solar industry.

  • Physical Stamina/Resilience: You enjoy doing physical work outdoors and have the fitness and upper body strength to effectively perform hands-on tasks in various weather conditions.

  • Initiative/Adaptability: You are self-motivated to work efficiently and to learn about the solar industry. You are calm under pressure.

  • Integrity/Honesty: You are punctual and behave in an honest, fair, and ethical manner.

  • Personal Responsibility: You conduct yourself with a clean and professional demeanor. You are dependable and communicate in a professional, respectful, and timely manner with others.

  • Client Care: You understand how your work directly impacts the client experience and have a genuine concern for client needs and satisfaction.

  • Competitive wage $24.00 - $33.00 an hour.

Up to 40 hours/week dependant on weather and volume of work.
